J. Riggs

Attorney

Born and raised in Texas, J. (pronounced “Jay” but his mother promises his name is just one letter and a period) started practicing law handling multiple different areas of law including family law, criminal defense, and general civil litigation. J.’s past experiences coupled with his work ethic give him a greater understanding of the issues that arise in family law cases.

J. attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX where he graduated magna cum laude with Honors, majoring in Supply Chain Management with a minor in Mathematics.

He went on to attend Texas Tech University School of Law in Lubbock, TX where he earned his Juris Doctor in May 2020 and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas later that year.

While in law school, J. was involved in multiple Board of Barrister mock trial, moot court, and negotiation competitions. J. also fought for his clients in the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic as a student-attorney.

J. is focused. He knows, from personal experience, that everyone deals with issues – big and small. J. stands ready to help families deal with issues by rendering representation with compassion, concern, and fortitude.  J. wants to get to know his clients, their needs, and their hopes for the future.  He’s prepared to provide top-notch counsel and advice for his clients so that they can navigate the tough circumstances life throws at them.

As an experienced attorney and mediator, J. has seen families come together and work towards a common goal. If there’s a path that will save time and money, J. does not hesitate to present that option to his clients. But when a courtroom is needed, he will work tirelessly to fight for the rights of his clients who need someone to stand up for them in their darkest moments.

J. believes that solid legal counsel can help families when issues they face become more than they can manage alone.  Above all, he enjoys seeing individuals and families move past the most taxing events in their lives so they can focus on the things that make family truly rewarding.

J. is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Texas Family Law Section, Texas LGBT Law Section, and Austin Bar Association. He was also selected to the 2023 Texas Rising Stars list, an honor that is limited to 2.5% of the attorneys within Texas.

In his spare time, J. enjoys playing board/video games with friends, traveling the country, and exploring Austin’s ever-growing entertainment scene with his dog, Micki.
